Cinematography That Made You Go Wow in 2022!

Cinematography is an art form that can be as bold as a gong crashing after a moment of silence or as subtle as the tide coming in. It elevates a film to the heights of accolades or becomes frustrating when it misfires.

While at the heart of cinematography is the Director of Photography or Cinematographer, to get something from the script to the final shot takes a whole team of professionals, and it is their talent that we champion today.

So without further ado, these moments of cinematography took our breaths away in 2022. Be warned that there may be some slight spoilers for the films in question.

The Nominees Are –

Andor

A star destroyer a[[ears over the skies of Aldhani

It brings a grounded feel to the Star Wars universe without losing an inch of its majesty.

Ambulance

A film that elevates drone photography to an art form and brings an electric energy to every moment.

The Banshees of Inisherin

Looking across the water to the mainland.

From natural lighting to the majestic sweeps of the Irish countryside, we get taken back into the past to a land full of salt and gossip.

Everything Everywhere All at Once

Making fractured realities pop with a visual style that gives you hope that the multiverse can be visually engaging

Nope

a field of waking inflatable men

I never once thought this was filmed during the day because this is a masterclass in misdirection and capturing a vibe, even if that is terrifying.

And the Winner is!!!!! – Ambulance

Directed by – Michael Bay
Cinematography by – Roberto De Angelis
Drone work by – Kyle Bullington, Colin Burgess, Aaron Cohan, Drew Roberts, Ben Stefanides, Jordan Temkin & Alex Vanover

This was a tough category because it was challenging to separate Ambulance and Nope. In the end, what separated the two is that I have seen so many failed attempts to incorporate drone photography into films. However, here, not only do the team nail the energy of drone photography, it is used to support and highlight the rest of the film. Their addition is not just fabulous but integral to the film working as well as it did.
