TL;DR – There is nothing quite like a shark to ratchet up the tension in the water.

NCIS: Sydney Review –
If you ask someone about Australia, the first thing they will likely mention is the wildlife and how it wants to kill you all. In reality, as long as you take some sensible precautions, you’ll be fine in nearly every case, bar drop bears. Oh, and sharks, because they are apex predators for a reason.
So to set the scene, it is a beautiful day down at the Malabar Ocean Pool, that is, until the swimmers discover a shark has made it into the pool from the ocean, even more so when a bloody hand drops out of its mouth. But what happens when you have a missing Navy SEAL but you have no missing SEALs? We will be looking at the episode as a whole from here, so there will be some [SPOILERS] ahead.

Setting a Navy series in Australia, there was only a matter of time before a shark was going to enter the equation, and I am almost not surprised that it happened so soon. But like all things, they may be feared, but they rarely are the actual culprits. However, if you need a story about a SEAL diver washing up on shore, then a shark is an excellent distraction to make it happen. I liked that it explored veterans’ difficulties returning to civilian life, even if it was only a superficial analysis.
One of the things that setting an American TV Show in Australia could explore is the tension that could exist when allies spy on each other. This does happen from time to time, but it is always a great scandal. Given shows like this rarely tend to explore the lousy conduct of the American military system properly, so even though this was quite weak-sauce on that front that could be easily dumped on the CIA, the one organisation that you can take pot-shots at. I did like that they went there. It was also nice to see them work more as a team this week. I was getting frustrated regarding Bluebird’s (Mavournee Hazel) isolation. But I had forgotten in Gone Fission that they were only a temporary hire. Thankfully, this was finally resolved by the end.

In the end, do we recommend NCIS: Sydney – Brother In Arms? Yes, we would. It wasn’t a revolutionary episode, but we got a solid police procedural that did take a couple of risks. However, it is hilarious that their secret base might be in the most expensive part of the city.
