TL;DR – This is the episode where the quest, the gods, and the half-blood’s stories all coalesce together in a way that makes it the strongest episode so far.
Disclosure – I paid for the Disney+ service that viewed this series.
Post-Credit Scene – There is a mid-credit scene.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Review –
There is one thing that can make or break your show, movie, video game, or even radio play, and that is the casting. It is so important to find people who can embody the characters and bring them to life. Add in the added pressure of playing new interpretations of old characters, and you have a recipe for disaster. But as we see today, this might be Percy Jackson’s biggest strength.
So to set the scene, since feuding with the Chimera at the top of the Gateway Arch and maybe causing a bit of destruction to a national monument in I Plunge to My Death, our gang of Percy (Walker Scobell), Annabeth (Leah Jeffries), and Grover (Aryan Simhadri) are forced to start hitchhiking as the cops are starting to get suspicious about them. But their day goes from bad to worse when Annabeth spots The Fates (Joyce Robbins, La Nien Harrison & Cindy Piper), and a gentleman (Adam Copeland) in a motorcycle rides up to them. We will be looking at the episode as a whole from here, so there will be some [SPOILERS] ahead.

Well, there is a lot to dissect this week because, like every dungeon master warns against, we split the party. After the meet-up with Aries in the diner, Annabeth and Percy go off on a little side quest, and we will get to that soon, but that leaves us with Aries and Grover. I think those two unlikely personalities having a bro down might be some of the best character work we have seen this season. It was honestly fun watching them bond over some of Aries’s deep cuts, and can I tell you the Turbot War, Lobster War & The Three Hundred and Thirty-Five Years’ War are very deep cuts indeed. Also, Aries starting Twitter Wars feels so on-brand for him. Aryan and Adam work so well together here that you almost forget that Grover is actually needling him for information, and Aries accidently spills.
Aries is the first of two gods that we are introduced to this week, but goodness does he exuded everything about the role. Adam Copeland’s time in wrestling clearly has helped him with the ability to bring a presence to the screen, which he shows here. It also is helped by some fantastic facial expressions that bring a lot of range to the character. This nuance was needed to bring the character to life rather than just a caricature. I know that Aries was one of the biggest disappointments in the Movie adaptations, and to see him done so right here is excellent to see.

Annabeth and Percy go off to Waterland, and it is here where we start getting into the weeds of these Greek Gods and the stories that surround them. Even in the slightly sanitised version they are using here, the Gods are deeply unpleasant. Also, shout out to the Tartarus foreshadowing. It helps provide the foundation for the narrative but also the point of difference for our characters. Even though they are related to the Gods and being thrown into their world, they are not going to play their games the way they want. This creates a sense of interest because that kind of playstyle is either going to land the Hail Mary or blow up in your face, sometimes both. Also, retuning the interaction to give Annabeth the leading voice in resolving the interaction was the best choice.
In the end, do we recommend Percy Jackson and the Olympians: A God Buys Us Cheeseburgers? Yes, we do. I had a lot of fun with this episode, and it is clear that the show is really hitting its stride. I hope they can keep going towards the end because we are about to hit the murky part of the show.
