RV There Yet? – Video Game Review

TL;DR – While the vibes might not be for everyone, I had a blast playing this with friends as we worked out the perilous path our RV had to negotiate.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Disclosure – I paid for the PC version of the game that was used for the review.

RV There Yet? Review Introduction –

Every year, there seems to be a video game genre that bursts out of nowhere and dominates the discourse. In 2025, I would say that one of the best candidates for that would be the Co-op Survival Challenge, where you and your friends have to work together to surmount a challenge while the world is trying to kill you. Working together to climb a mountain, or today’s game, going on a pleasant drive in the back country with a group of friends.

So, to set the scene, after a week of you and your friends boondocking around in Mabutts Valley, it is time for you and your friends to get into your RV and drive home. But, oh no, the road to the 65 interstate has been closed after a tunnel cave-in. This means, to get home, you and your friends will have to take the long way around, which goes deeper into the forest, and where the road becomes more and more perilous with each turn. The only way you can get home is if you work together as a team, oh, and not get mauled by a bear in the process.

Mechanics

Mechanically, your task is to get your RV and your friends through a series of physics puzzles to get everyone to the end and presumed safety. You will need to winch the RV along, build pathways with planks, repair damage you have taken, oh and also yeet yourself off a ramp or two. While the setting is clearly fanciful, indeed, there is no way those gas stations would stay in business in the real world. However, it is close enough to what you would be doing when going on a 4WD trip that you can conventionalise it. I would say that the game is quite generous with its handling, even if it’s a bit on the floaty side of things.

Now, like most games in this genre, there is the ability to have different roles. My job was map man, which felt thematically appropriate. As someone who does not know how to drive a manual car, I mostly left the driving to others, but even in those moments I did take the wheel, it was intuitive enough for me to bumble my way through. Indeed, I think someone who has never driven before would be able to pick it up if they needed to. There are some clipping issues you need to be careful of when your RV takes a bit of damage; you can look back and see a trail of items behind you. Also, while I have heard it can be glitchy, I only experienced two during my playthrough, including someone being launched into the stratosphere by a winch, like they had upset a Giant in Skyrim. But they were more amusing than anything else.

Vibe

What might put people off this game is the vibe it is putting out, which might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Basically, you are playing a little dude that is powered by cigarettes, beer, cold coffee, and burgers, which sometimes explode from the butt of a moose you have just put on your movable cooker. There are very few controls in the game, and three of those are set aside for how you smoke and ditch your cigarette. At this point, I do feel obliged to point out that one should not throw their used cigarettes into the forest. But that might just be the ‘Australia Constantly Inundated by Bushfires’ part of me. I personally didn’t have an issue with it because I could separate it as a fantasy. Also, there is a clear juxtaposition between the crass players and the beautiful scenery that feels deliberate.

Recommendation

In the end, do we recommend RV There Yet? Yes, I would, it is a bit janky around the edges, and I am not sure if I would replay it again with the same group of people. However, I did have quite a bit of fun, and the price point is right for a game like this. And hey, you might even pick up a few driving instincts along the way.

  1. My brother and I have had a blast playing RV There Yet! We’re excited to check out the new map that’s out this week as well. It’s a great game to just kind of casually play while chatting, but then chaos ensues out of nowhere here and there. A great time!
