PAX Australia & Melbourne Day 4 & 5

Well, it may be almost a year late, but we are finally getting to the end of our PAX 2022 series with a look at the final days. It was the last day of PAX Aus, and for the first time, I actually took the time to stop and have a decent breakfast down by the river as the morning Sun warmed off the previous night’s rain. It was a beautiful day by any standards, but apparently quite good for Melbourne’s sometimes temperamental weather.

I had one mission on the final day of PAX Aus: to get over to the gaming showcase to check out some of the new Indies that were coming out, given Sunday was the day without the queues or fewer of them.

There were many, many games out there that were all fascinating to watch. I enjoyed getting a look at the strategy/city builder, The Fertile Crescent. The hype for Cult of the Lamb was well deserved, and Mars First Logistics was bouncing around with a beautiful score and delightful gameplay.

I was not the only one who picked Sunday to come to give the games a whirl as cameras, lights, and boom mics crossed across the show floor.

In the afternoon, it was time for one final panel before the show closed: the ABC Gamer Panel putting together gaming pitches off random images. It was an unhinged delight.

Then it was time to make one final walk back to the hotel, and as a treat, I picked up the best flavour of ice cream on the way home.

The next day involved a quick drive to the airport. In which it was a good thing I got there early because the entire baggage system was kaput, and it took a lot longer to drop off my bags than I had planned. Unlike back on Day 1, the trip back was fully clear skies as you watched the patchwork farms roll underneath.

Well, as far as first trips to Melbourne go, this was a good one. It also laid the groundwork for another trip, maybe PAX Aus 2023?
