TL;DR – The first trial is here, and it very much sets the tone for the show going forward.
Disclosure – I paid for the Disney+ service that viewed this film.

Agatha All Along Review –
After last week’s Seekest Thou the Road and Circle Sewn With Fate / Unlock Thy Hidden Gate double opener gave us the foundation of this world, it was going to be interesting to see where they would go from there. Everything was building to that road, and by the end of episode 2, we were there. Now, we need to find just what trials will appear along the road.
So, to set the scene, when Agatha (Kathryn Hahn) combined the powers of Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata), Alice Wu-Gulliver (Ali Ahn) & Lilia Calderu (Patti LuPone), oh and Sharon Davis (Debra Jo Rupp) and Teen (Joe Locke) are also here, to open the door to the Witches Road, she seemed surprised the most that the door opened. But attackers were there, and Agatha had no choice but to run down the staircase. But now that they are all on the road, the dangers start hitting home because even straying off the path can be deadly. Now, from here, we will be looking at the episode as a whole, so there will be some [SPOILERS] ahead.

This was an interesting episode in that it very much set the vibe for what we need to expect going forward while also just dropping huge lore icons like it was nothing. After years of fan suggestions from at least the WandaVision era, we finally get our first real Mephisto namedrop. But where we really shined was in the visuals. Sure, setting one of the trials in a suburban house that they probably had on a backlot somewhere might have been a sound option, but it is the commitment to it with the costumes and the vibes and Sharon’s willingness to kill someone for that kitchen layout.
The trial itself felt like it was both appropriate to the setting while also being what you expect for a witches’ ritual. It was set to test one of the team’s skills, it needed everyone working as a team to succeed, and it highlighted Agatha’s selfishness while also being a conduit into our character’s pasts. It was a fascinating way to bring us into their world and see some of the dangers that they would face. Just seeing what elements of their pasts that haunts the coven was an excellent way of building backstories without the need to bob everything down with exposition.

The one thing I am not sure about is Sharon’s supposed death at the end. Getting rid of Debra Jo Rupp is a big move, especially as she is playing the audience’s surrogate character. This hit hard for me because they did a death fake-out for the character right at the start of the episode. Also, she died just after having to relive the trauma of Wanda controlling every aspect of her life, including whether she could breathe or not. It could be an excellent wake-up call for the witches, and it does show how dangerous the place is, but only time will tell.
In the end, do we recommend Agatha All Along: Through Many Miles / Of Tricks and Trials? I was left with a pause at the end of the episode and wondered if Aubrey Plaza would be showing up again. I was captivated throughout the entire episode and in this world they are creating. Though it helps that everyone is throwing their all into it.
