TL;DR – Today, we map the two different trips on top of a magic carpet as Aladdin tried to woo Princess Jasmine.

Mapping Aladdin Introduction –
Over the weekend, I realised it had been a while since I’d made a Map‑It entry. And because old Disney films happened to come up in conversation, I started wondering whether the magic‑carpet route differs between the 1992 animated film and the 2019 live‑action remake. So, I booted it up to see.

The Analysis
When you lay the two routes side by side, the first surprise is just how different the two Agrabahs are. The animated film evokes a stylised ancient Baghdad; deep in the desert, where caravan camels roam. The live‑action version, however, feels more like one of the ocean‑facing merchant kingdoms that developed along the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean. Because of that, we’ve treated them as separate starting locations.
The other major difference is the distance they travel. The animated film hits several iconic landmarks: the Pyramids, the Forbidden City, and more. The live‑action route is far more subdued, and you have to make a few educated guesses based on architecture and environment. Even then, I’m not entirely convinced this is the definitive path, so if you have a better read on their direction, let me know
Summary
In the end, it was fun dusting off those cartography skills and diving back into the magic‑carpet madness. I would say that the animated Aladdin gets marks for taking Jasmine to more interesting and varied locations, and the live-action Aladdin gets marks for charting a course that you might actually be able to do without freezing in the upper atmosphere.
I do have some ideas for some other maps I will be working on this year, given someone’s 30th birthday, but if you have a map that you would like us to do next? Let us know in the comments below.
