TL;DR – We map out every restaurant featured on Buzzfeed’s
Much to my own frustration, it has been a while since I have been able to fly overseas and explore the world. As a way of at least exploring the world and its food vicariously, I have been rewatching Buzzfeed’s Worth-It for like the fourth time.
In the show, the team of Steven Lim and Andrew Ilnyckyj, along with Adam Bianchi and Annie Jeong, explore food from around the world using a very interesting formula. For example, if the theme is Hotdogs they will visit an inexpensive, medium, and expensive restaurant to see which is the most worth it for the given price (hence the title of the show).
– Every single feature of Civilization 6 (at time
of posting) in one map
This week, well two days ago at the time of writing, the new and second expansion for Civilization VI called Gathering Storm was released. It added new Civilizations, City States, World Wonders, Natural Wonders, and most interestingly Geographical Features (see all new features HERE). With that in mind, I knew I had to immediately jump in and update our Full Civilization VI Map.
Now as always, a couple of notes before we start, first the Civilization boundaries on the map are based more on clarity than anything else, so in most cases, they conform to their modern counterparts. We have also worked using the commonly implemented political borders, not necessarily what nations claim, and this means making some judgement calls which you will see below. Also, while all attempts have been made to make sure that everything is accurately placed, putting this together meant working from multiple different sources, and map projections, and as such, no matter how much you try there might be some slight discrepancies here and there.
Finally, after the break there will be a lot of large images, so now is the time to check that you are on WiFi and are not using Mobile Data.
TL;DR – Today we chart every
location visited on screen in the James Bond film franchise
Over the last little while, I have been
rewatching all the old Bonds now that they are all streaming here in Australia.
Watching the old Bonds I have been struck by a lot of things, like how did they
ever get away with calling a film Octopussy? But the one really interesting
thing is just how much of the world James Bond visits in his travels. Indeed
back before air travel was as available as it is now, this was one of the core
drivers of the Bond franchise. Because you got to see exotic parts of the world
that you would never get to see in your lifetime and this is still the same today.
So with this map, I have tried to get
every location that I could find but this did lead to some issues. There are a
lot of places where there are no clear locations, indeed there are a few
fictional countries as well. With that in mind I have made some educated
guesses, and when there are not reasons otherwise I have used the actual
filming locations as a guide. It was also fun to see the locations that films
like coming back to like Hong Kong, Istanbul, Venice, and Austria. Well, without
further ado, here is the James Bond World Map.
TL;DR – Today we chart every location visited on screen in the Mission: Impossible film franchise
Today I had the day off work and thought it was the perfect time to pop in my Mission: Impossible – Fallout (see review) blu-ray and enjoy Tom Cruise running for two and a half hours. As Hunt and the team gallivanted around Europe and beyond I did what I always do in these situations and started charting it all out, and once that starts well itis best to crack open that world map and put it all down.
Now with today’s map, we have added all the places that Mission: Impossible has visited in the films, not necessarily where they were filmed. Also, my memory is not as good as remembering some of the details from the older movies and a lot of the synopses don’t go into the amount of detail that I needed, so I might have missed a couple.
TL;DR – With Volume 5 just released and Volume 6 just around the corner we take a moment to map out all of Chef’s Table
If you have been reading my reviews for a long time then you will undoubtedly know that I have a deep love for David Gelb’s striking food documentary series Chef’s Table on Netflix. It is a world full of beautiful food, fascinating stories, and a deep exploration into a world that I don’t really get to visit. Well today the fifth volume (six if you add in France which we do) has dropped and I wanted to take a moment to combine my love of both food and cartography and thus chart out every restaurant visited throughout the series so far (and even into the next volume since the names of the chefs have already been announced). With the maps, if a chef had more than one location featured, we picked the central place explored in the episode.
TL;DR – Every single feature of Civilization 6 (at time of posting) in one map
I had been asked a couple of times whenever I posted my Civ 6 maps or my Civ 6 city maps why didn’t I combine them all into the one map? Well, the simple reason is that right back at the start I tried but it just was not feasible. I had tried to add all the cities into America and they didn’t fit, which made the prospects of adding countries like France or The Aztecs next to impossible. However, After Rise and Fall was released and I went through and created a new map from the template I was working with I wondered if it was possible to upscale it to a size where I could fit in the Netherlands. The Netherlands was the most are compact civilization in the game so far so it became my bellwether and it worked and thus began the long, long process of putting this map together. This was a process with just as many success as well as failures, however after all that work, here it is.
TL;DR – Today with the next Avengers release imminent we take a look at where on Earth we have visited during Phase One, Phase Two, and Phase Three
I like I think a lot of people have been sitting around with nervous excitement/suspense for Infinity War that drops next week at the time of writing and I thought it best to funnel that nervous energy into something productive. So since I like maps and I like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I thought it would be interesting to map out where the MCU has visited during its three phases up to this point.
