TL;DR – IMAX, Boats, and The Rocks, Oh My

Exploring Sydney

Well, it has been a while since I jumped into the world of an Explore-It, and now is as good a time as any to explore a trip I took a bit ago to the most populous city in Australia [for the time being], Sydney. After Day 1, which was all about the zoos, today was a more muted time among the boats.

Unlike the sunny first day, I woke to a slightly gloomier day, which will be a warning sign for tomorrow that I would ignore. However, it did strike Darling Harbour in a moody light.  

My first stop in the morning was the IMAX cinema in Sydney. At the time, Queensland had long lost its only IMAX cinema, and I needed to see Dune on the biggest screen I could. It was 100% worth it.

While I was in the cinema, the rain came, leaving everything quite damp, and one had to watch their step everywhere. I made my way along the Australian National Maritime Museum, enjoying all the ships moored in the harbour.

After an exploration, I decided to make sure of the harbour and take a ferry back to Circular Quay, which gave me a wonderful view underneath the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

As the weather was holding up, I decided to take some time getting up close and personal with the Sydney Opera House. One of the things I love about the Opera House is all the intricate tiles that you see when you get up close. It is almost as if the giant sails transform into a mosaic in front of your eyes as you approach. There was also a great view of the HMAS Kuttabul naval base across the water.

While I had walked quite a bit during the day, I thought I would take the time to get a couple more steps in by exploring The Rocks. This may have been a mistake, as all the rain had made the footpath a touch more slippery than I planned.

After taking a very precarious wet metal staircase through the old section of the city, I thought I better not use up all my luck and found a nice pizza place for dinner. While I absolutely paid the tourist tax, it was worth it for a hot meal, a wonderful location, and delicious pizza.
