Reminders of Him – Movie Review

TL;DR – While conceptually interesting, I never bought the romance and the heart of the film, which is a problem when your film is all about the romance.

Reminders of Him Review Introduction –

Having decided, probably wisely, to steer clear of everything to do with It Ends with Us, my first dive into the world of Colleen Hoover came last year with the very interesting Regretting You. It was a film that I fundamentally liked with interesting characters, so I was interested to see what other worlds she could create.

So, to set the scene, Kenna Rowan (Maika Monroe) is making a trip back to her hometown, but this is not a celebratory return. She has just been released from prison after serving 5–7 years for vehicular homicide. She is also not just returning to her hometown to reminisce, because the homicide was her former lover Scotty (Rudy Pankow), and their child Diem (Zoe Kosovic) now lives with their grandparents, Grace (Lauren Graham) and Patrick (Bradley Whitford). Kenna had her parental rights stripped from her, and now needs to reunite with her daughter. First step, finding a place to live, and a hotel aptly named Paradise is the place for that. The second step is finding a job, and that is where she runs into Ledger Ward (Tyriq Withers), Scottie’s old best friend.

Twinless – Movie Review

Twinless Review Introduction –

Today, we are looking at a film that is probably the penultimate film of the year for 2025. A movie that was much requested and with which I knew nothing about before pressing play beyond a vague understanding that it was delving into the dark comedy space. Sometimes this can be a burden, but today’s film is one of those interesting jaunts that may be better with the viewer knowing as little as possible before walking in.

So, to set the scene, we open with a screech of tyres, a sound of a thud, and then an awkward funeral. It is very difficult for Roman (Dylan O’Brien) because the deceased in this case is his identical twin brother. After a difficult fight with his mother, Lisa (Lauren Graham), Roman decides to seek out some help and joins a support group for those who lost their twin. It is here that he meets Dennis (James Sweeney), another twin who lost their twin. Roman’s life is spinning out of control, and Dennis is a stabilising factor, until…

TV Review – Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life

TL;DR –  Honestly it is a bit of a mess at times, but usually, that is part of the charm for Gilmore Girls, but this time round I don’t think they quite stuck the landing

Review –

It is one of my secrets … well not anymore … that in the late 2000s I binge watched all the episodes of Gilmore Girls over a couple of months. So while I enjoyed the series, got annoyed with the lukewarm ending, I wouldn’t say it is one of my favourites or indeed in my top 30, but it was still a TV show that I very much enjoyed. Honestly the fact that I am reviewing a new Gilmore Girls is quite a rare turn of events on many fronts, we have a series coming back from cancellation after nearly 10 years and we have the original writers and showrunners returning after leaving, something that is very rare in Hollywood. So after 10 years does the show still hold up, did bringing the creators back mean we will finally get the conclusion that we wanted … um yes and no.
