Toy Story 5 – Movie Review

TL;DR – A perfectly adequate addition to the series with the odd tender moment, and a lot of coincidence, so much coincidence.

Toy Story 5 Review Introduction

Look, I am just going to make it clear from the get-go that I walked into this film with the strong belief that it was not only unnecessary but profoundly detrimental to the franchise. Toy Story 3 is one of my Top 10 Animated Films of All Time and is the perfect ending to the series. I sort of worked my way through Toy Story 4, which, when you think of it, is more of an epilogue than a standalone film. I didn’t feel there was enough left in the tank to justify a fifth entry, and I think I was right.

So, to set the scene, Bonnie (Scarlett Spears) has been growing up fast, but still loves playing with her toys every day. But Jessie (Joan Cusack) and the gang have been trying to get her out of her shell so she can make some new friends. What Jessie does not know is that there is a storm brewing, and that storm is tech. Across the neighbourhood, toys are being abandoned as kids turn to tech to entertain themselves. But what was a neighbourhood problem is now in their house as a new Lilypad (Greta Lee) device has arrived, and it does not play fair.

Doctor Who: Lux [S2E2] – TV Review

TL;DR – A profoundly weird episode that leans into its weirdness in a way that made it profoundly compelling.

Doctor Who Review –

While this new era of Doctor Who has been a bit hit-and-miss for me. The episodes that have shined through all of that have been the ones where they dialled up the camp, or the weirdness or the absurd. Stories with real teeth that let the cast have a lot of fun with the concepts. There have not been many of them, but today, we get another to add to the pantheon.

So, to set the scene, The Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and Miss Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu) have landed in 1952 so they can use a Vindicator as a lure to get back to when Belinda was taken from. They can’t just go back normally because the TARDIS keeps bouncing off the day. But when they arrive in Miami, they find a cinema that has been boarded up with flowers of people missing. Fifteen people walked in three months ago and just disappeared from the cinema/picture house. A haunted cinema, it’s like catnip to The Doctor, but maybe they should have left this one alone. Now, from here, we will be looking at the episode as a whole, so there will be some [SPOILERS] ahead.

TV Review – Doctor Who: The Witchfinders

TL;DR – Well this is an odd one indeed, and while it is looking at an important issue, it just feels like it never really all clicked together.

Throughout history, there have been numerous times when the people living in villagers have needed a scapegoat for their current woes, and often times that scapegoat has been any women of note in the town. Now, of course, the most well know, though not well understood, occurrence of these witch trails was in Salem, Massachusetts in the US, they also happened across the world (and still happen today), and in tonight’s Doctor Who, we look at England’s past. However,while this setting should feel right up The Doctor’s (Jodie Whittaker) ally,something just does not quite work.

Movie Review – Battle of the Sexes

TL;DR – When it actually gets to the Battle it is a thrilling film, you just have to get through a lot of setup beforehand, a lot of setup, too much setup.

Review –

This is a really odd film, some aspects of it work amazingly, yet other parts fall flat, so it is both fascinating, yet also hard to recommend. Whatever the case, it was interesting to read up on this real-life event, this is because I was not born when it happened, and until this film came out I didn’t even know it existed. So today we are going to look at what did work and what didn’t of this both frustrating and yet also fascinating film.
