Jurassic World: Chaos Theory – Season 1 – TV Review

TL;DR – This continues to be a love letter to both Dinosaurs and Jurassic Park. You feel the danger and the wonder of dinosaurs at all times, even if that highway turnoff looks suspiciously familiar.

Jurassic World: Chaos Theory Review –

It should be no surprise that I am a fan of dinosaurs, and if you are talking about dinosaurs, the reigning champion of that world was and still is Jurassic Park. While the movies have been a bit hit-and-miss lately, one thing I have been consistently impressed with was this younger demographic-targeted animation on Netflix. Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous was an actual love letter to the series and the giant reptiles that once walked the Earth. Today, we are looking at the next follow-up to that series to see if it can still capture that joy and wonder.

So to set the scene, we open as a Tyrannosaurus Rex crashes onto a highway. It is a wild new world as Dinosaurs roam the countryside, and the Department of Prehistoric Wildlife try to keep people safe. While everyone from Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous made it home and tried to help out, not everyone survived the rise of the dinosaurs. Darius (Paul-Mikél Williams) is out hunting for one particular Allosaurus that he has beef with, for reasons, when Ben (Sean Giambrone) arrives with news that the Nublar Six are being hunted, which is when a whistle blows out into the night. Now from here, we will be looking at the series as a whole, so there will be [SPOILERS] ahead.

Anyone But You – Movie Review

TL;DR – This is a film that is based entirely on the chemistry of the two leading cast members. Thank goodness they have some.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Anyone But You Review –

There is a considerable risk when you base the entire foundation of your film on the charisma of your two leads. There are multiple examples, like Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, where that mistake has caused the film to fall flat on its face. It is a dangerous proposition … but what happens when you get it right?

So to set the scene, it is a typical day in a coffee shop when Bea (Sydney Sweeney) runs into Ben (Glen Powell) while trying to get the key to the bathroom. Some shenanigans occur but sparks fly, and soon they are spending the night together. But the following day contrives a situation where both parties think the other was in the wrong, and they part ways with an odd story of a creep to tell their respective friend groups. Until we discover that those respective friend groups are the same because Bea’s sister Claudia (Alexandra Shipp) is the new finance of Halle (Hadley Robinson), whose brother Pete (GaTa) is best friends with Ben. That animosity gets heightened when both of them end up on a plane to Sydney, Australia, to attend the wedding, only to find both of their exes are there. So they fake being in a relationship. What is the worst that could happen?

Gran Turismo (Gran Turismo: Based on a True Story) – Movie Review

TL;DR – It takes what could have been a boilerplate story and brings it into overdrive with the roar of an engine that rumbles through the cinema.

Gran Turismo Review –

There have been a lot of adaptations of video games from Sony at the cinema recently, some good, some bad, and occasionally they can be fantastic. But what we are looking at today is a little bit different. Sure, it is based on and named after a video game, Gran Turismo. However, its full release title here in Australia, Gran Turismo: Based on a True Story, should give you a hint that something else is going on here. Something quite interesting.

So to set the scene, Danny Moore (Orlando Bloom) is a marketing manager from Nissan’s England division, and he has found a problem. Young people don’t care about cars anymore. They are the generation of Uber and such. He flies to Tokyo to Nissan head office to suggest a contest to fix that issue. Because game designer Kazunori Yamauchi (Takehiro Hira) from Polyphony Digital has recreated car racing down to the minutest details in his game/simulation Gran Turismo, if they create a competition where the best drivers in the sim get a chance to be a ready race car driver, they could ignite the passions of an entire player base in driving again. Well, one of those players is Jann Mardenborough (Archie Madekwe), a kid from Cardiff, who is trying to forward his passion in life when everyone else just sees it as a game, and well he is here to prove them all wrong.

Skull Island: Season 1 – TV Review

TL;DR – This is a perfectly watchable show, but it never reached its potential, with some odd tone issues and a lacklustre narrative holding it back.

Skull Island Review –

When  Kong: Skull Island came out in 2017, I was delighted with the world they created, full of mystery and wonder. This meant I was slightly disappointed when they killed off the island with one line of dialogue in Godzilla vs. Kong. However, there is clearly still a lot of space in the Monsterverse, and today we look at more adventures on an island where nearly everything wants to kill you.   

So to set the scene, we open on a research boat of some sort in the South Pacific Ocean. There is a loud commotion when a girl named Annie (Mae Whitman) in handcuffs tries to escape the crew hunting her down. She makes her way onto a lifeboat in a last-ditch effort and drives into the storm. Meanwhile, on an exploration boat, Charlie (Nicolas Cantu) and his father, Cap (Benjamin Bratt), have a significant conversation about going to college. As Charlie’s friend Mike (Darren Barnet) consoles him, Charlie notices a girl floating in on some wreckage. It is quite a commotion, but while Annie is concerned about the mercenaries chasing her, she is even more concerned about what lurks in the deep. Now from here, we will be looking at the season as a whole, so there will be some [SPOILERS] ahead.
