Article

This week, well two days ago at the time of writing, the new and second expansion for Civilization VI called Gathering Storm was released. It added new Civilizations, City States, World Wonders, Natural Wonders, and most interestingly Geographical Features (see all new features HERE). With that in mind, I knew I had to immediately jump in and update our Full Civilization VI Map.

Now as always, a couple of notes before we start, first the Civilization boundaries on the map are based more on clarity than anything else, so in most cases, they conform to their modern counterparts. We have also worked using the commonly implemented political borders, not necessarily what nations claim, and this means making some judgement calls which you will see below. Also, while all attempts have been made to make sure that everything is accurately placed, putting this together meant working from multiple different sources, and map projections, and as such, no matter how much you try there might be some slight discrepancies here and there.

Finally, after the break there will be a lot of large images, so now is the time to check that you are on WiFi and are not using Mobile Data.

Awards – My Top 15 Films of 2018

Top 15 Films of 2018.

So far in our awards, we have looked at Action, Animation, Best of Australia, Cinematography, Costumes, Emotion, Fun, Music, Tension, and Worldbuilding.

As well as this, we have taken a walk down the lane of our most disappointing films of 2018. However, in this last entry into in our Best of 2018 awards, we crown our winner of the best film of 2018.

Now all films are subjective, so our list might look completely different than yours, also we didn’t get to see every film this year which means we will be only drawing our Top 15 from the 90 films we did get to see, which you can see a list of HERE.

Also we had to draw the line somewhere So I am going to take a moment and list some highly commended entries: Annihilation, Ant-Man and The Wasp, Avengers: Infinity War, BlacKkKlansman, Ladies in Black, Love, Simon, Mirai, Searching, The Breaker Upperers, The Favourite, and The Shape of Water.

Also, I should point out right from the start that Paddington 2 is not on our Best of 2018 list, that is because it was on our Best of 2017 list.

Okay with that out of the way let dive into the first entry in our list of Best Films of 2018.

Awards – The Most Disappointing Films of 2018

The Most Disappointing Films of 2018.

While it was a great year for cinema, not everything worked, so here are our most disappointing films of 2018. These are not necessarily the worst films of the year, though they are there as well, some of these are films that failed to live up to expectations.

Now I didn’t get to see every film of the year, so there may be some missing here, also I tend to avoid things if they look like they will be trash (most of the time). So there could be some stinkers of the year which I have gratefully missed. You can see all the films we reviewed HERE.

So here are our most disappointing films of 2018 –

Awards – The of Best of Australian Cinema in 2018

The of Best of Australian Cinema in 2018.

It was an amazing year for Australian Cinema, with each film I saw knocking it out of the park. There were intimate documentaries, films that held up a mirror to society, and those that brought action to a new level.

It was also a great year for overseas films made in Australia like Aquaman, but in this list, we will be looking more at the locally made Australian productions/co-productions.

So without further ado, these are the best of Australian Cinema in 2018. Be warned that there will be some big spoilers ahead for the films in question.

Awards – The Films of 2018 That Emotionally Wrecked Us

The Films of 2018 That Emotionally Wrecked Us.

As I have gotten older I am not afraid of having a good old-fashioned ugly cry in the cinemas when the time calls for it, and hell I probably got emotional just writing this list (Spoiler: I did). Sometimes they are tears of grief, sometimes they are tears of joy, and even still sometimes they are tears of anger.

Emotion is a core part of the cinema experience, and if you can’t get us to emotional respond to your characters and/or the situation, well then I am sorry you have failed in making a good film.

So without further ado, these are the films of 2018 that emotionally wrecked us. Be warned that there will be some big spoilers ahead for the films in question.

Also, there were so many films that emotionally moved me this year, these are only the top five, you can see them all HERE
